Submission Guidelines

• Articles can be submitted either in full edited form or in the form of a pitch.
• Articles must be 100% fresh. No republished material.
• No links promoting a product/service/website (other than personal websites)/etc.
• Preference will be given to articles with photos, but photos are not necessary.
• We aren't too restrictive in your word limit or format. We understand that writing is an art and we want to give you as much freedom to write with your style and flow. Don't stress about format, do your thing.
• Must be written in English.
• Articles should have the audience in mind: independent, well-travelled people who like to travel "off-the-beaten-path." Adventurous and outgoing; sometimes budget restricted.
• Articles should fit one of the following categories:

  • Feature: there is no specific criteria for a featured article. These articles will be featured on the home page and in monthly newsletters. Length should be between 1000-1500 words. Articles submitted under the heading of feature may be moved into one of the below categories, if approved by the author.

  • Unique Resort/Hotel Review:

  • Adventure Spot: We want to hear about your adventures. Whether it is mountain biking in Canada, hot air ballooning in Costa Rica or base jumping in South Africa we want to hear about it. Stories should fit between 500-1200 words. Videos are great too!

  • Destination Features: Write about a city, town, resort, park, etc. This can be a guide of things to see, or just a well written descriptive article on a destination.

  • Top 10s: Write a beautifully crafted and original Top 10 (or top whatever) list with photos and/or video and descriptions of each. Seasonal articles preferred.

Payment

Standard payment for features is $25, payable via PayPal, upon publication. Higher fees (typically $40-$60) may be negotiated for special projects or in-depth features. All articles will Feature articles will be paid $25 If you have a personal website or blog, we're happy to link to it and provide full credits. All payments will be made via PayPal.

Publication Rights

• If you publish with Offbeat Traveler you will be asked not to publish the same article somewhere else for 6 months after the publication date.
• You retain the rights to all material published on Offbeat Traveler.
• You will keep the rights to all your photos used in the article(s).
• We require articles that are not under any publication protection and that are 100% original.
